About Us

Like most people who visit Paris for the first time, Le Village Marché owner Angela Phelps fell in love almost immediately when she first visited the city of lights in 2000. From its magnificent architecture to its charming cafés to its rich history of art and culture, she couldn’t get enough of it. She recalls a journal entry from that trip, “Now I fully understand why Gertrude Stein said, ‘America is my country and Paris is my hometown’.” 

That inspiration, combined with a life long love of interior design and vintage antiques, ignited a dream of one day opening up a boutique that would capture and reflect the rustic images and textures that she fell in love with in Europe. After six years and two subsequent trips abroad, she decided to leave career behind and begin living the dream that had been brewing for so many years.

The boutique, Le Village Marché, (the village market) is located just outside Washington, D.C., in the heart of Arlington, Virginia’s newly revitalized Shirlington Village.  A unique blend of the old and the new, the rustic and the refined, Angela has created an impressive collection of vintage home décor and chic accessories that reflect some of her inspiration of Paris.  The store opened March 2007.
